Swansea manager Garry Monk has leapt to the defence of under-fire Liverpool counterpart Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers was agonisingly close to leading the Reds to a first domestic title in 24 years last season but is now under pressure to produce results as his side continue to struggle without the departed Luis Suarez.

Monk feels the reaction to Liverpool's indifferent start has been unfair and feels Rodgers, who led Swansea to the Premier League during his spell as manager between 2010 and 2012, is capable of turning things around.

"Brendan's a great manager and he's done so well there," Monk said ahead of Saturday's clash with Crystal Palace.

He nearly won the league last season and within six months people are questioning his ability to manage Liverpool, which is just ridiculous.

"He nearly won the league last season and within six months people are questioning his ability to manage Liverpool, which is just ridiculous.

"But this is the way of the world. Unfortunately, in this profession at this level, it's a hunt. People would rather see that than people doing well because it's better news but, in terms of Brendan, I can't think of a person who'd do a better job at that place.

"He's had a high turnover of players and they're not firing on all cylinders, but these big teams don't dwell for long.

"Liverpool will pick up and you'll see them rise up towards the top of the league come the end of the season."
