Jonas Olsson is to have an operation on his damaged Achilles and will not play for West Brom again this year.

The centre-half has missed Albion's last eight games through injury and will now travel to Portugal for a minor procedure to repair the tendon.

Olsson's recovery period is being estimated at between four and six weeks, and he said: "I have been struggling with this on and off for some time and I've come to the point where it feels like surgery would help it.

"The recovery time is short so I hope to be back 100% some time after the New Year."

Belgian defender Sebastian Pocognoli is back in training, meanwhile, and could return against Arsenal this weekend.

The summer signing missed Saturday's defeat at Chelsea with a hamstring problem.
