Manager Gus Poyet is confident Sunderland have put their troubles behind them after taking a point in the stalemate at Leicester.

Sunderland kept their first clean sheet in almost two months having conceded 14 in their last four games, including an 8-0 thumping at Southampton last month.

And Poyet is encouraged by the performance of his ahead of a difficult run that sees them play the teams that finished in the top three in the Premier League last season.

"I think we are back to normal. I needed to think about what happened three or four weeks ago and we needed to get back to basics," he said.

"That day (Southampton) was a terrible day, it was something unique but it creates doubt in the players' minds and in the next game we made two massive mistakes (against Arsenal).

"We play Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool next, so in two weeks' time I'll let you know if we can do the same. It's a decent day."

Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson had the pick of the chances for Sunderland with both testing Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Riyad Mahrez twice went close for the home side and the Algerian also saw a second-half penalty claim ignored - a decision Poyet admitted Sunderland were lucky to get away with.

"On another day it goes against you, today we were lucky it didn't," he added.
