Sylvain Marveaux appears likely to return to Newcastle United next summer as loan employers Guincamp cannot afford him.

The French midfielder returned to his homeland during the off-season on a season-long agreement.

The deal to take him to Guingamp included the option for a permanent move to be made.

There is, however, little chance of the Ligue 1 outfit activating that clause.

Marveaux has impressed during the early stages of the 2014/15 campaign, with the form that deserted him in England slowly returning.

He remains contracted to Newcastle until 2016, though, and will have to return to St James’ Park at the end of the current campaign if another buyer cannot be found.

Guingamp chief Jocelyn Gourvennec said, as reported by the Evening Chronicle: “We know that when operating at this level, Marveaux is not a player for Guingamp. His future is not here.

“Marveaux is very creative and very influential in the game. He is a player of the highest level.”

The 28-year-old has been on Newcastle’s books since the summer of 2011, but has struggled to hold down a regular role throughout his time on Tyneside.
