Leicester striker Leonardo Ulloa has revealed he told Brighton he wanted to leave in order to secure a move to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old excelled as the Seagulls narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season, with Oscar Garcia's side losing in the play-off semi-final to Derby.

But, when Leicester expressed an interest in the summer, Ulloa conceded that he could not pass up the opportunity to play in the top flight.

“This year I said to Brighton I would not stay because I had a very important chance,” Ulloa told the Daily Mail.

“I did not know if it would come again.”

The Foxes’ record signing has certainly hit the ground running since leaving Brighton to join Nigel Pearson’s men after scoring three goals while helping his new side earn five points so far on their return to the top flight.

And, while he is surprising many with his prolific form, Ulloa insists he is simply enjoying the fruits of hard work in training.

"Because I came from the Championship, maybe people did not expect this from me," Ulloa added.

"But I am a striker and I work every day for that. Now I need to work more because I want to continue to score goals and help the team."
