Transfer news: Sammy Ameobi admits he is entering a big season at Newcastle

Sammy Ameobi acknowledges that the 2014/15 season could be make-or-break for him as he hunts a new deal or a transfer.
The 22-year-old forward has entered the final year of his current contract at Newcastle United.
If fresh terms are to be tabled, Ameobi must convince manager Alan Pardew that he has an important role to play in the club’s future.
I need to play very well to either get a new contract with Newcastle or be able to make a good move elsewhere.
Last season was his most productive to date, with Premier League appearances breaking into double figures for the first time.
Ameobi is, however, still on the fringes of things at St James’ Park and has seen Newcastle once again strengthen in the creativity department over the summer.
He is now aware that he needs to hit the ground running at the start of the new campaign and prove to either Pardew or interested onlookers that he is worthy of regular opportunities.
Ameobi told Punch: “I am in the last year of my contract with Newcastle and I have to start it with a bang. I am no longer a kid.

“I have had a lot of injuries, which I am hoping I have gotten over now, so I need to play very well to either get a new contract with Newcastle or be able to make a good move elsewhere.”
Ameobi has also revealed that he is hoping to earn further international recognition.
He remains part of the England U21 set-up for now, with five caps to his name, but has expressed a desire to follow the lead of older brother Shola and commit his senior future to Nigeria.
“It will be a great honour to play for Nigeria. I would love it,” said Ameobi.
“I have seen how it has been with my brother and the World Cup was a great experience, which I would love to experience and help make sure Nigeria participates in again.”
