Porto midfielder Fernando's agent, Antonio Araujo, has claimed that his client will move to the Premier League.
The 26-year-old was linked with a deadline-day move to Manchester City during the January transfer window, but that reported switch did not materialise.
However, City are said to have maintained their interest in the Brazilian and his Porto team-mate Eliaquim Mangala, and could return for the duo at the end of the season.
Fernando's agent has now added weight to the speculation by claiming that his client will sign for an English club next season.
"God willing, Fernando will play in the Premier League," Araujo told RTP.
"Manchester City were a strong candidate, but were not alone in the race."
Araujo added that Fernando had the chance to follow his then Porto team-mates Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez to Monaco last summer.
"He had a good contract from Monaco, but Porto found out that proposal was inconsistent with his claims," he said.
