Juan Agudelo is hoping his spell in Holland will lead to him finally sealing a move to Stoke City.
The American international forward was denied a work-permit to play in England late last year, after he agreed a move from New England Revolution.
The 21-year-old has since been loaned to Dutch side FC Utrecht, while Stoke will continue their pursuit of a permit for the Colombian-born striker.
"It was just hard to give up on a dream that I had as a kid," he said about his move to England not going through.
"Maybe something could have worked out with Major League Soccer, but for the most part I wanted to try and come over here.
"It was a little bit difficult, but everything is a process."
He hopes he can prove himself in Holland, and told MLSsoccer.com: "(United States striker) Jozy (Altidore) said I will get my chances here, he said I just have to keep myself close to my goal and work hard.
"I want to work on the runs that I make, creating more chances by getting on the end of things. And tactically, becoming more mentally aware."
