Jonathan Pitroipa has explained why his proposed switch from Rennes to Stoke fell through at the last minute.
The Potters had targeted a move for the Burkina Faso winger on deadline day and held talks over a loan deal with a view to a €3million summer transfer.
However, Stoke were unable to secure Pitroipa's services and he has now attempted to clarify the situation, insisting that his agent was not to blame.
"Contrary to what has been said, it was not due to my agent that I didn't join Stoke, but due to intermediaries appointed by Rennes on that case," the 27-year-old is quoted as saying by L'Equipe.
Stoke were also linked with late moves for Tom Ince and Lee Cattermole as the transfer deadline approached, but failed to sign anyone on Friday.
Winger Ince joined Crystal Palace on loan from Blackpool, while Cattermole stayed at Sunderland.
