Aston Villa have rejected reports that owner Randy Lerner is "actively" looking to sell the Premier League club.
Reports over the weekend suggested that Lerner wanted to recoup around £200million for the club he bought in 2006 for £62.2m, and after spending £250m on players and improving facilities.
But chief executive Paul Faulkner has denied the speculation and insisted Lerner remains committed to the Villa Park outfit.
"I can categorically confirm Aston Villa Football Club has absolutely not been put up for sale and that Randy Lerner is not actively looking to sell the club," Faulkner told the Express and Star.
Villa were involved in a relegation battle last season and are currently 10th in the latest Premier League standings, although just five points above the bottom three, following Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Everton.
