Cardiff have confirmed they have sold Andreas Cornelius back to FC Copenhagen for an undisclosed fee.
Cardiff paid a then club-record £8million for the 20-year-old in the summer, but he failed to score a first-team goal in 11 appearances and has returned to his former club for a cut-price fee of around £3million.
The Danish side confirmed the deal with a simple message on their Twitter feed.
It read: "FC Copenhagen can confirm that Andreas Cornelius purchased on a five-year agreement. The first workout Monday! Welcome!!".
Speaking earlier in the day, Solskjaer said: "Andreas has had a hard time.
"He came here with big potential, he is a young kid and young kids are not the ones you expect to carry a team. He is a young man who will play lot of good football in his career."
