Stoke defender Erik Pieters says he thinks the club should make every effort to sign his fellow Dutchman Luuk de Jong.

Dutch international De Jong, 23, has seemingly fallen out of favour at his German club Borussia Monchengladbach.

And his representatives have reportedly been at Stoke this week discussing a possible January move to the Potteries.

Former PSV Eindhoven man Pieters told The Sentinel: "I played against him in Holland and he is a good player.

"He is a big striker with great technique and good scoring ability.

"Because he is tall, he is also good in the air. And, for his height, he's got a good technique to control and shoot.

"From my opinion of him in Holland, I know he is a good player and would be really good here.

"I don't know if it's going to happen though, we will have to wait and see."

Pieters fit

Pieters has also declared himself fit for Stoke's Premier League game at Hull this Saturday.

The full-back was sidelined by a groin injury for last weekend's 3-2 home win over Chelsea but says he is available if needed for the KC Stadium clash.

He told the Stoke website: "I am good again now and am ready to go, if I am selected.

"They would not take any risk for the Chelsea game. I was in that much pain, it was too much of a risk to play."

However, Pieters is aware he may not reclaim his left-back spot immediately after his fellow summer signing Marc Muniesa filled in capably against Chelsea.

"Marc did really well and I am very proud of him," said Pieters. "We came to Stoke together and I know it was difficult for him, because he didn't play many matches.

"But, when he played against Chelsea, it was good for him and good for the team.

"I want to play as well but, if the manager chooses from me or Marc, it is no problem."
