Fulham boss Martin Jol has admitted he is willing to let John Arne Riise leave the club in January.
Riise has found himself out of favour at Fulham this season and has made just two starts in the Premier League so far this term.
The former Liverpool man has not even figured on the bench in recent weeks with Kieran Richardson the first-choice left-back in Jol's plans.
Riise, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has previously admitted he may have to consider his future at Craven Cottage and Jol is happy for him to depart so that he can play regular first-team football.
"I feel John Arne Riise is such a good guy and a good player that he deserves to play." Jol told the Fulham Chronicle.
"I can't give him that because Kieran is more energetic, which is what I need.
"If he's not playing he's at an age where he should play games. That's his idea as well."
Jol explained why he had not been including Riise in his matchday squads, feeling he needs more versatile players at his disposal.
"He can only play left-back and I need players on the bench who can play in different positions," Jol added.
