Papiss Cisse will return to the Newcastle United first team in Tuesday's friendly against St Mirren, manager Alan Pardew has confirmed.

The striker had not been involved earlier in pre-season after refusing to wear the club's shirts branded with pay-day loan sponsors Wonga, claiming their business conflicted with his Muslim beliefs.

But the dispute has been resolved and Pardew, who saw Newcastle defeat Blackpool on Sunday, will welcome Cisse back for his first match next week.

"He'll play on Tuesday at St Mirren, we've got a game up there," Pardew told Sky Sports News.

"Papiss will play and Hatem Ben Arfa will play. That will please the St Mirren locals because we should get better attendance."

"(Cisse) is an important player for us. You could see today when Shola went off and we're lacking striker options. So it's very important we've got him back in the fold."

Pardew has high expectations for Cisse in the new season, when he could be joined in attack by Newcastle transfer targets Bafetimbi Gomis and Loic Remy.

"Papiss can play a big role for us this coming season, and I fully expect him to kick on and make a positive contribution," said Pardew.

"He was a little bit isolated at times last season, on his own up front. But if he can get a relationship going with whoever might be alongside him, I can see him thriving."

Meanwhile, Pardew confirmed striker Shola Ameobi sustained an injury having scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Blackpool.

"Shola Ameobi picked up a dead leg, which was a shame, because he looked in really good shape," added Pardew.
