Ali Al Habsi believes Wigan can turn their fortunes around and avoid relegation for the second straight season
About a year ago, the Latics produced a late revival which saw them upset Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United en route to finishing 15th in the league after languishing in the drop zone for most of the campaign.
The club now find themselves in a similar situation, and Al Habsi is confident they can repeat last season's heroics.
"It's because we have belief that we can do it again," the 31-year-old keeper told The National.
"It was special last year, beating all those teams. We can repeat that."
The Oman international blamed injuries at critical positions for the club's poor run of form.
"We've had a lot of injuries, especially in defence," he added.
"The defence and the goalkeeper are the most important part of a team and when it's broken up by injury, it's difficult. I know the regular players and know what they are going to do, that becomes harder when the team has to change. Now, everyone is back and we feel confident."
