Yoan Gouffran is determined to repay Newcastle's fans for their warm welcome of the club's new French signings by getting results on the pitch.

Magpies manager Alan Pardew brought in six new faces during last month's transfer window - five of which are from across the Channel.

Gouffran was one of his new recruits after arriving from Bordeaux, while Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara and Moussa Sissoko also bolstered Pardew's ranks.

That raft of winter signings took the total of French imports on Tyneside to 10, while another four players speak French as their first language.

Some fans showed their support for the new arrivals by adopting French-themed fancy dress for Newcastle's 3-2 home win over Chelsea last week.

Asked if he was aware of the gesture, Gouffran told Sky Sports: "All of the French players, we saw that in the stadium. We saw people with moustaches, berets, with garlic and obviously the French flag flying high.

"Obviously against Chelsea it was an absolutely superb atmosphere.

"We were really happy to be able to see that. The fans have given us a fantastic welcome and we're trying to go out on the pitch, do our best and win games to repay that thanks."
