Sir Alex Ferguson believes Javier Hernandez has rediscovered the form he showed during his debut season at Manchester United.

The Mexican took his tally to 10 goals for the campaign with his last-minute winner in United's Boxing Day thriller against Newcastle.

That is exactly half the number Hernandez recorded in his first season at Old Trafford in 2010-11 - a figure he was unable to match last term when he only found the net on 12 occasions.

But with the 24-year-old back in form, Ferguson says: "Every time Javier has played he has contributed.

"He has got 10 goals now and that is despite not playing every week.

"On Wednesday he could have scored four or five. Javier must have run about 20 miles against Newcastle - he never stopped."

And the Scot also praised his player's excellent attitude on the training ground: "Javier's effort and enthusiasm to play is absolutely fantastic.

"He is a great example to anybody who wants to be a footballer. He is exactly the same in training and gives 100% in every session.

"It is refreshing when you get a young man with that attitude to playing football."
