Premier League strugglers Reading will be without goalkeeper Alex McCarthy for their upcoming fixtures.

The highly-rated 22-year-old has been performing well this season and has been keeping Australia international Adam Federici out of the team.

However, McCarthy was injured right at the end of Sunday's 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers QPR at Loftus Road, having collided with a post as he dived for a Djibril Cisse shot which flew just wide of the target.

Reading boss Brian McDermott said: "Alex has seen a consultant. He has a shoulder joint problem and will be out for a little while."

The Royals will also be without midfielders Jem Karacan and Danny Guthrie for Saturday's clash with Norwich at the Madejski Stadium, but Noel Hunt will be fit to play.
