Reading boss Brian McDermott felt his side could have got a draw against Liverpool

Reading boss Brian McDermott was left to rue his side's slow start after going down to Liverpool at Anfield

Raheem Sterling's first-half goal was enough to give Liverpool their first Premier League home win of the season and leave Reading still searching for their first victory.

McDermott felt his side did enough in the second half to earn a point and believes there are positives he can take from their performance.

"I said to the boys at half-time that they never really hurt us and it was one over the top that they scored from," said McDermott.

"I honestly felt we were going to get at least a point and we fought right to the end and there were a lot of pluses even though we lost the game.

Referring to Reading's slow start, McDermott said: "We've got to start at three o'clock and pass the ball like we can do.

"I watch us in training every day and our players can pass and play and we are still adjusting to the league and we have been in every game bar one against Spurs.

"If we keep doing what we are doing the results will come and coming to this stadium is never easy."
