Steven Caulker admits fortune favoured him on Sunday as he netted his first Tottenham Hotspur goal in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

The defender knew little of his landmark effort, as he inadvertently directed a wayward shot from Jermain Defoe past a helpless Brad Guzan.

Caulker is, however, understandably delighted to be off the mark and to have helped Spurs to a fourth successive Premier League success.

"It will go down as a lucky goal but it's my first Premier League goal and my first for Spurs, so I'm delighted with that and the win," he told Sky Sports.

Villa posed Spurs plenty of problems at White Hart Lane, but Andre Villas-Boas' in-form side proved too strong in the end as they clambered into fifth place in the table.

"Especially in the first half, I think they caused us a few problems," added Caulker.

"They are a good side and we were up against it. But we played well and I think the better team won.

"The team is doing fantastically well. I'm confident we can continue on this good run."
