Manchester City have confirmed the arrival of Maicon at the Etihad Stadium from Inter Milan and have also snapped up experienced goalkeeper Richard Wright as a free agent.

Roberto Mancini has turned to a man he knows well in an effort to solve City's problems at right-back, with Maicon having worked under the Blues boss during his time with Inter.

The pair spent three productive years together at Giuseppe Meazza and will be hoping to get their hands on further silverware after reuniting in England.

Maicon brings considerable international and European experience with him to City, with the Brazilian defender having graced the 2010 World Cup and 2010 UEFA Champions League final.

The 31-year-old will also provide cover down City's entire right-hand side, with his buccaneering style of play making him as comfortable on the wing as he is at full-back.

"Brazilian defender Maicon has joined Manchester City on a permanent contract," read a statement released on the club's official website.

"The right-back moves to the Blues from Inter Milan for an undisclosed fee."

Keeper cover

Meanwhile, City have also revealed that they have snapped up former England international Wright in an effort to bolster their keeping ranks.

The 34-year-old, who has turned out for the likes of Arsenal, Ipswich and Southampton in the past, found himself without a club this summer after leaving Preston.

Able to boast 467 career appearances and two England caps on an impressive CV, Wright will provide important competition for places in Mancini's squad.

"Former England goalkeeper Richard Wright has joined City," read a statement released by the Blues.

"Wright, a free agent after a brief spell with Preston North End, will act as back-up for Joe Hart and Costel Pantilimon."
