Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes the club have more new players than people think - because Carlos Tevez is back.
Tevez was absent for much of last season due to high-profile dispute with manager Roberto Mancini.
But he returned to play his part as City secured the title on the final day and scored the opener in the 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday.
And with the Argentine forward now fully fit, his skipper believes they have a real asset on their hands and can improve this season.
"Carlos is recognised by everyone as one of the best strikers in the world," said Kompany.
"People talk about new signings but having Carlos at his best level, which he wasn't last season because he was away for most of it, is just like one.
"I still say we have improved."
New face
The one new face introduced by Mancini this summer is Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell.
Although the 21-year-old was culpable for Southampton's second goal, Kompany is happy with the early signs from the youngster.
"Jack has settled in really well," added the 26-year-old.
"His performance was ahead of what you would have expected from someone who just came in for his first game after two training sessions.
"Maybe it was the right moment to introduce him. In any event, it paid off.
"Now the tough games come and I am sure we will gain a lot from having him with us."
City will need to up their game on Sunday when they travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
"Playing at Anfield has never been easy," said the Belgium international.
"They have always been very difficult, intense games.
"They will fancy their chances. But we fancy ours as well."
