Jason Roberts is hoping to put his vast experience to good use as Reading prepare themselves for a return to the Premier League.

Roberts linked up with the Royals on an 18-month deal in January and played a leading role in the club's Championship title success.

He may be 34 years of age, but his vast experience and keen eye for goal have ensured that he remains a menace to defenders.

Reading are hoping he will form an important part of their Premier League efforts next season, and Roberts admits he is happy to help out on and off the field.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: "I like giving something back, it's the way I am. I've had the pleasure to play with some fantastic professionals in my career and the information they impart is more important than football.

"I saw Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman after our last home game of the season and he was absolutely fantastic to me when I was a young kid at Wolves.

Tradition

"He always had a spare ten minutes to speak to me about anything. Stuff like that you never forget.

"So to be able to pass that on to another young professional is brilliant.

"You just hope that sort of mentality and tradition remains in the game. It's a pleasure for me to pass that on to others."

Roberts added: "When I came here it was with the intention of getting the club back up to the Premier League.

"I'm a Premier League striker and that's where I want to be playing."
