Kevin Ball has been named reserve team boss at Sunderland after Keith Bertschin joined up with former manager Steve Bruce at Hull City.
The former Sunderland skipper made almost 400 appearances for the club and also had a spell in charge as caretaker manager in 2006.
More recently Ball has been working a member of the back-room staff at the Stadium of Light and his promotion comes after an impressive spell as assistant Academy manager looking after the Under-18s.
Former Darlington boss Craig Liddle will step up to the post of head of youth development at the club.
Joining Bertschin on the way out of Sunderland for Hull is coach Stephen Clemence.
