Gareth Barry: England man had to sit and watch the drama unfold as Manchester City won the title

Gareth Barry feared Manchester City's title hopes had flown away as his side trailed 2-1 to relegation-threatened QPR in stoppage time.

With just minutes left the midfielder saw a helicopter flying overhead and thought the Premier League trophy was being delivered to rivals Manchester United at Sunderland.

But late goals from Edin Dzeko and then Sergio Aguero in added time were enough to earn mega-rich City their first title in 44 years and ensure the trophy was delivered to the Etihad Stadium.

Barry had to sit out the frantic final stages of the match having been replaced by Edin Dzeko 21 minutes from the end and admits that made the ending all the more dramatic.

"I will remember it well because I had to sit and watch, and that is probably worse," he added.

"You would rather be on the pitch. It's far more nervous to watch because you cannot affect it.

"But I have soaked it all in, because you have to enjoy moments like this - it's been fantastic so far."
