Midfielder aims to stretch Wigan's unbeaten run to five games

Roberto Martinez is ready to unleash Mohamed Diame on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday after he returned to training following a groin problem. The powerhouse midfielder was arguably Wigan's best player in the first half of the season but has been used sparingly since the turn of the year. He spent most of January on African Cup of Nations duty with Senegal and has struggled to get back into the side since for various reasons. Injury has kept him out of the last two games for Wigan, but Diame is now fighting fit and desperate to get back into the first team and drive Wigan on to safety in the final seven games. "Momo has trained really well this week, and I am working under the assumption he will be fully-fit for the last seven fixtures," Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post. "He has responded very well to treatment, and we just need to make sure we tailor his programme to make sure he gets back to exactly the same level he was at earlier in the season."

Rodallega

Diame is unlikely to be joined by team-mate Hugo Rodallega on the bus to London on Saturday as the striker is struggling to shake off a knee injury. "As far as Hugo is concerned, we'll know later in the week how he is progressing," Martinez added. "He's stepped up his recovery and will be ready at some point over the next three games. "The question is when, but I fully expect him to be able to play his part over what will be a very demanding schedule. "Although he is improving all the time, he hasn't yet trained with the team. "And we need to make sure we don't over-do it with him and lose him for any more games than we have to."
