Everton midfielder Leon Osman believes Nikica Jelavic can provide the goals his side have been lacking so far this season.

Jelavic netted a superb winner on his Goodison Park debut in the 1-0 win over much fancied Tottenham in their Premier League clash on Saturday.

The 26-year-old's goal was only the 15th to find the net in 14 home league matches and Osman credits the influence of the Croatian international in securing the three points.

"I think he has been showing he is capable of that in training and when he was at Rangers," said Osman.

"He seems to be able to finish anything, it is what strikers do, they are instinctive. He seemed to know that was how he was going to finish it and it was a good goal."

Jelavic's brilliant finish was created by Osman who broke past Younes Kaboul into the penalty area before cutting back to the striker.

Osman has been sidelined for the last two months following a minor knee operation but made his first start since January against Tottenham.

During that time Everton put together a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions and the 30-year-old admitted that helped when it came to his return.

"It has been tough being out so to come back in, get through the 90 minutes and be part of a winning side against a good team is really pleasing," he said.

"When everyone has their chests out and is confident knocking the ball around it is a lot easier to come into the team.

"We are a dressing room full of confidence at the moment and hopefully we can keep that going."

A third successive home win lifted Everton to within two points of seventh-placed Liverpool with a Merseyside derby to come at Anfield on Tuesday.

"We are focused on the derby now and we will go there and try to win," said Osman.
