Paul Scholes: Celebrates scoring the opening goal for Manchester United against Norwich

Paul Scholes has warned his Manchester United team-mates they cannot afford to drop any points if they are to stop rivals City being crowned champions in May.

The Premier League veteran with nine titles to his name was lured out of retirement in January to help boss Sir Alex Ferguson's campaign.

And the 37-year-old has already chipped in with a couple of goals including setting United on the road to victory against Norwich on Sunday.

But with City showing no signs of cracking under the pressure of being two points clear at the top of the table, Scholes insists nothing less than a win will do for United in the last 12 league games of the season.

"There is no point drawing games so we were throwing everyone forward going for that goal, and I am sure we will do the same thing again," Scholes told MUTV.

Amazing

"Of course, three points instead of one is a big difference. That is what we are here to do.

"We realise we may have to win every game to win the league, but we are ready and prepared to do that. Hopefully, we can do it."

Despite opening the scoring at the weekend, United were in danger of dropping points when Grant Holt equalised to set up a tense finish to the match.

And United found inspiration in another of the veteran campaigners, 38-year-old Ryan Giggs, who marked his 900th game with the winner leading Scholes to hail him as "amazing".

He added: "Just to play that amount of games for a top club is a great achievement from him and he is still going strong as he proved throughout the game and, thankfully, getting us the winner in the last minute.

"It was almost as if it was written for him really - 900 games is amazing and to do it for one club and Manchester United is even better."
