Midfielder wants to build up match fitness to aid Bolton's survival fight

Bolton midfielder Sean Davis is joining Bristol City on loan but is determined to return and help the Trotters stay in the Premier League. The 32-year-old has suffered two serious knee injuries since joining the Trotters in July 2009 and has been restricted to just four appearances for the club. Davis, however, is now fully recovered from those setbacks and has been training and playing for the reserves for the last two months. He is now looking to play regular first-team football and the former Tottenham and Portsmouth midfielder hopes to get that at Ashton Gate.

Fitness

"The fitness is good. I had a word with the manager [Owen Coyle] and he told me to go out on loan for a month to play football," he told Sky Sports. "Hopefully I can play as many games as I can, build up my fitness and go back and help Bolton get out of the situation they are in. "I've come here to Bristol City and they are a big club in this division. They have given me a chance to play again, and I want to do my best to help them progress while I'm here. I spoke with the manager who was very positive about me coming here and I just want to show the fans what I can do now. "It's been hell for me since joining Bolton. I had an operation on my knee after just a few games and when I came back, I found out it hadn't worked and that I needed another one. "I was out for more time, which was very frustrating. I'd just moved up north and had uprooted my family, so it was a difficult period for all of us."
Long-term plans
Davis, who is a former England Under 21 international, had his last outing against Liverpool in August 2009 when he was sent off for the first time in his career. It is a blemish on his record he does not want to be remembered for, and is now eager to make up for lost time and prolong his career. "I've learnt a lot about my body during my time out injured," he added. "Things like diet, training and hopefully with this new education I've received, I can add a few more years on to my career. "My ideal position is to protect the back four where I can break up the play. I can use my experience in that role and then go back to Bolton and help them get out of trouble. I still believe I can help them and play at the highest level."
