Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph could miss the rest of the season following the ankle injury he suffered on loan at former club Leeds United.
Delph returned to Elland Road last month and his temporary stint with the Championship side was due to expire after Saturday's game against Portsmouth.
However, the 20-year-old hurt his ankle in last week's defeat at Coventry City and is now in danger of sitting out the remainder of the campaign.
He had made 11 appearances in the Premier League this season prior to joining Leeds and Villa boss Alex McLeish confirmed Delph's latest injury setback is serious.
Shame
McLeish said: "Delph is not fit. I don't know if he will play again this season but he's rolled his ankle sufficiently enough to rule him out (for some time).
"It's a shame because we wanted him to go out and play regular games to see if he could get over those ailments that he's had.
"Hopefully, if he comes back stronger in the summer then we will see a different Delphy."
Delph, who was signed from Leeds for £6million by previous Villa manager Martin O'Neill, had a long spell out of action after rupturing his cruciate ligament in April 2010.
He then suffered an ankle setback towards the end of last season which required surgery and this term a series of minor problems have curtailed his progress.
