Hungary international defender Tamas Kadar has been handed an unexpected chance to resurrect his Newcastle United career against Norwich City this weekend.
Injuries to Steven Taylor, Fabio Coloccini and Mike Williamson have left Magpies boss Alan Pardew starved of defensive options heading into Saturday's Premier League encounter with the Canaries.
As a result, Kadar has been drafted into the first-team squad, and could partner either Davide Santon, James Perch or Danny Simpson in the middle of defence.
Kadar, who was signed on the same day Kevin Keegan was re-appointed as Newcastle manager back in 2008, has failed to live up to his billing and has made only 13 first-team league appearances to date.
But, after impressing for the reserves this season, the 21-year-old is hopeful of grabbing his first-team chance with both hands, should he be given a starting berth against Paul Lambert's Norwich.

Kadar told the
Evening Chronicle: "Hopefully, I can get my chance to play for Newcastle again. I want to step up and play for the first team.
"To get to the first team, it'll be hard work - I know that - but I know myself. I feel I can do the job for the team. All I can do is train hard.
"If I train with the first team, I have to show the manager what I can do. That is my aim."
Kadar made his debut in the Carling Cup against Huddersfield Town in a 4-3 win back in 2009, yet also holds the distinction of not appearing on the losing side for Newcastle in the league.
However, with his contract up at the end of the campaign, Kadar is running out of time to prove his worth to the Magpies.
He added: "It has always been a dream to play for Newcastle, and it still is. I have to wait for a chance, and if it comes, I have to take it.
"I'm training as hard as I can. I'm fit now, and I just have to work hard every day."
