Ipswich manager Paul Jewell is poised to make a loan bid for Stoke's Danny Collins after an enquiry this summer was thwarted.
The 31-year-old has been left of Stoke's 25-man Premier League squad as Tony Pulis drafted in England internationals Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson over the summer.
Collins now looks to be surplus to requirements at the Britannia Stadium and may welcome the opportunity to be part of the first-team plans at Portman Road.
Jewell hinted at a loan bid when he said: "It's not my remit to discuss other players.
"But he is a good player, we did enquire after him but, as I've said, we've made numerous enquiries with Premier League clubs.
"Teams want to name their 25 man and then look at it again. Even then we can only have them for 92 or 93 days."
