Spanish defender arrives at St Andrews

Birmingham have drafted in Pablo Ibanez for an undisclosed fee from West Brom. The Spaniard has opted to swap life at the Hawthorns for that at St Andrews after finding first-team opportunities hard to come by. He will be staying in the West Midlands and will hope that a cross-city switch can revive his career. The 30-year-old has penned a two-year contract with the Blues. Ibanez joined West Brom in 2010 but was unable to hold down a regular role. He made 14 appearances for the Baggies last season, two goals, but has opted to make a fresh start with the Blues.

Bonus

Upon landing Ibanez, Birmingham boss Chris Hughton told the club's official website: "Pablo is a player of very good age and experience. "He's been at West Brom and it is perhaps a bonus that he's used to the area and English football. "He's a player of real good experience and he will be valuable for us in a season where we will play a lot of games. "He's got a very good pedigree and he will be better for his experience over the last year at West Brom."
