Warnock stepping up chase for Aston Villa full-back

Aston Villa have confirmed experienced full-back Luke Young is holding talks regarding a move to Queens Park Rangers. Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that QPR were exploring the possibility of bringing the former Tottenham and Charlton defender back to London. QPR boss Neil Warnock is aiming to make up to five new signings before the transfer window closes and has been targeting a new right-back. Kieron Dyer suffered an injury on the opening day of the season against Bolton Wanderers, while Bradley Orr picked up a knock against Rochdale in the Carling Cup in midweek. Young has started both of Villa's Premier League games so far this term, but manager Alex McLeish must offload players in order to bring in fresh faces. McLeish is keen on Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton and Young's departure would create room for the Scotland international. "Luke Young is not going to be with us," confirmed McLeish ahead of Saturday's game against Wolves. "He was injured, and we actually trained the whole week with one of the younger players. "Luke would've missed the game tomorrow anyway, but he's in talks with QPR at the moment." Former England defender Young joined Villa from Middlesbrough three years ago and he is approaching 100 appearances for the Midlands club.
