Midfielder says Newcastle's decision is 'predictable'

Joey Barton has confirmed he has been forced to train alone following Newcastle United's decision to put him on the transfer list. The Magpies announced on Monday that the former Manchester City midfielder would be allowed to leave St James' Park on a free transfer. Barton has another year remaining on his contract but his ongoing Twitter criticisms of the Magpies hierarchy have pushed him towards the exit door. After initially announcing via his Twitter feed he was "off to training", the midfielder then remarked shortly after: "Made to train alone today, how predictable........." Barton even took to quoting George Orwell just before that when he wrote: "In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act". The England cap's agent Willie McKay told skysports.com on Monday evening that he was 'shocked' by Newcastle's decision but said there will be no shortage of takers. Stoke City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all understood to have made initial contact, while the likes of Everton and West Ham United have also been linked with bids.
