Sky Sports understands that Newcastle United have offered a new long-term contract to Danny Simpson.
The 24-year-old full-back had two years left on his current deal at St James' Park, but the Magpies hierarchy have moved to tie him down.
And whilst the club have refused to sanction five-year deals for the likes of Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan, that is what they have put to Simpson.
Simpson has impressed hugely in the North East following his move from Manchester United in 2009.
He spent an initial year on loan with the club before the deal was made permanent in 2010.
Despite suffering from injury in mid-season, Simpson started 30 Premier League games for Newcastle last term.
