Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill has voiced his desire to bring Manchester United youngster Nicky Ajose to Glanford Park for next season.
Former Bury manager Knill worked with the 19-year-old winger during his season-long loan at Gigg Lane this year before taking over as Iron boss in March.
And the Iron boss has already contacted United in regards to securing the services of Ajose for next term.
"Yes, we have made an inquiry about Ajose, though not to the man at the top (Sir Alex Ferguson)," Knill told This Is Scunthorpe.
"He is a player who we would be interested in buying, or having here on a season-long loan.
"But the decision is not ours, it will be a decision of the top football club in the world.
He added: "He is only 19 and the next stage for him in his development is a step up.
"Whether it's a step up to League One or to the Championship is really in Manchester United's hands.
"But we are hopeful they will think we will develop him again - which we definitely will.
"He is one of a few young players at the top of my wish list."
Ajose has scored 12 times in 27 league appearances for the Shakers to help them clinch promotion from League Two this term.
Scunthorpe will be bidding to regain their Championship status next season following their relegation to League One.
