Blues boss to consider new deals in the summer

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has revealed he will not consider any contract issues until the summer. A number of Blues players are out of contract at the end of the season including the likes of Sebastian Larsson, Lee Bowyer, Kevin Phillips, Stuart Parnaby, James McFadden, Martin Jiranek, Stephen Carr and Maik Taylor. The Blues can take up an option on the deals of McFadden, Jiranek, Carr and Taylor, while the futures of loanees Obafemi Martins, David Bentley, Alexander Hleb and Matt Derbyshire have yet to be decided. McLeish said: "Everything is on hold in relation to contracts. "Nothing like that will be getting addressed just now. "We have got to concentrate on climbing up the Premier League in the remaining seven matches." On the future of midfielder Bowyer, McLeish added: "I've never thought about not giving him a new deal. But the thing for him now is he might have a choice because his form has been so good. "I hope Bow can stay with us but we have to wait and see how things unfold." The Scot is keen to wait on these decisions as Birmingham are currently locked in a relegation dogfight at the wrong end of the Premier League. Meanwhile, central defender Scott Dann is unlikely to return from his hamstring problem before the end of the season. Dann is stepping up his rehabilitation work after suffering the setback in January. McLeish said: "I don't think Scott will be back this season. I doubt it. We wouldn't risk any player at this stage."
