Birmingham boss Alex McLeish plans to hold further talks with Lee Bowyer regarding his future.

Midfielder could stay at St Andrews beyond June

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish plans to hold further discussions with Lee Bowyer regarding his future at the end of the season. The midfielder is out of contract in June and said earlier this week that he did not expect to be offered a new deal after previous talks were unsuccessful. Bowyer claimed after his heroics in Birmingham's Carling Cup final triumph over Arsenal on Sunday that he would have to look for a new club. But McLeish has implied that the former Leeds star's career at St Andrews could continue beyond this summer. When asked if he wants Bowyer to remain for another season, McLeish said: "We did speak in the summer (of 2010) but the talks dragged on too long. "It ended up that, in terms of our finances for that particular period of time, they had dried up and the goalposts had moved. "We said, 'look, we will address it again at the end of the season'. There are no doors closed on anyone."
