Mark Hughes has hinted the club could retain Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen beyond the summer.

Cottagers boss open to extending striker's stay

Fulham manager Mark Hughes has hinted the club could retain Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen beyond the summer. The Stoke City marksman is currently on loan for the remainder of the season having joined on transfer deadline day. Gudjohnsen has made a positive impression with ex-Manchester City boss Hughes, who hopes the 32-year-old maintains his efforts. Hughes insists bringing in Gudjohnsen was never a gamble and that despite failing to shine at Stoke he is a good addition.

Pleased

"We've got Eidur until the end of the season and we're pleased with him," commented Hughes. "There will be chances between now and the end of the season and if he continues the way he has been in training, I'm sure there will be conversations to be had. "I knew I was getting a good player given his pedigree and the quality I've witnessed in the past. "It was never a risk. His last club didn't work out for him and I'm delighted he's here. He's added quality to the group."
