Inter Milan sporting director Marco Branca has admitted that Tottenham's valuation of Gareth Bale is too high.
Branca revealed that, although the club are interested in the highly-rated Wales international, parting with a £40million fee at this stage is beyond the bounds of the Italian giants.
Inter have been the centre of much speculation during the January window, with the capture of Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini, as well as the loan signing of Genoa's Houssine Kharja.
While discussing a number of potential targets, Branca was forced to admit that, while the club haven't ruled out making a bid for the 21-year-old in the future, Bale will not be moving to Italy any time soon.
"The Tottenham chairman sent me a nice message saying that £40million is not enough for Bale," Branca told
Sky Italia.
"He is a player we like and that we monitor, but the price is not compatible with our strategies."
Transfer targets
Despite appearing to put an end to any discussion about landing Bale, Branca discussed other targets for the club, including possible summer targets.
"[Feyenoord striker] Luc Castaignos? We'll decide in the next few days, but it is certainly a transfer for the summer," added Branca.
"[Udinese's Alexis] Sanchez? He wasn't on the market and is evaluated too much.
"Mirko Vucinic? We have never followed him. [Fiorentina captain, Riccardo] Montolivo? In June we'll see."
