Arsene Wenger has challenged Manuel Almunia to reclaim the Arsenal number one tag.
Almunia, 33, has not played since the end of September with elbow and ankle injuries.
His understudy Lukasz Fabianski picked up a shoulder injury which meant third-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has emerged as the new regular starter.
The Spaniard has received offers from his homeland and Turkey this month but Wenger has given him hope of returning back to the fold.
"At the moment Wojciech is number one," he said.
"He has done nothing wrong for me to take him out, but I can rotate the goalkeepers.
"In the cups I sometimes play different goalkeepers as well."
Wenger, though, maintains a strong admiration for his dethroned keeper Almunia and was lavish in his praise of him.
He added: "He is under contract and as long as he is at the club we are happy to have him.
"I like him as a man and as a player and I have shown that in my decisions. I am happy that he is here.
"Almunia has not played for a long, long time. I don't feel that any player is happy not to play."
