Ryan Babel would be happy to be a makeweight in Liverpool's attempts to sign Ajax striker Luis Suarez.
Reports suggest that Kenny Dalglish is ready to press ahead with a multi-million pound attempt to take Uruguay star Suarez to Anfield in January.
Liverpool are desperate for attacking support for Fernando Torres and could duly be prepared to offer players in exchange for any potential deal.
Babel has as good as volunteered to return to Ajax, who he left to join Liverpool in 2007, and he would be prepared to take a pay cut in order to earn first-team football.
"The transfer of Suarez to Liverpool opens the door for me to go to Ajax," he told De Telegraaf.
"If Liverpool and Ajax - whether in combination with Luis - can reach an agreement over me I will surely come to the club. For the chance to play I am willing to settle for far less pay.
"I know the club, know the style and played with a couple of players in Amsterdam and with the Dutch national team."
He added: "For a player of my age it is important to be playing week in, week out."
Babel was fined £10,000 on Monday and warned about his future conduct by the Football Association following his Twitter criticism of referee Howard Webb.
