Reid limped off in the 64th minute of the 2-1 home defeat with a knee problem and hamstring trouble then forced Ibanez off seven minutes later.

Di Matteo had already had defensive worries prior to the match with United and he does not expect either player to be fit for Tuesday's clash at Fulham.

Gonzalo Jara will be available again after serving a one-match suspension but Gabriel Tamas is still banned and Jonas Olsson remains sidelined with an Achilles injury.

"Now we're really struggling at the back," Di Matteo told the club's official website.

"There are a lot of defenders out at the moment and it's going to be very tough because there are not many options left.

"Pablo has a hamstring problem and Reidy has a knee problem.

"We'll have to assess them but I don't think they'll recover for the next game.

"We had two players missing before today and now we have another two out."
