New signing eyeing Wolves debut after shrugging off injuries

Summer signing Steven Mouyokolo is hoping to break into the Wolves first team after shrugging off injury. The centre-back suffered ankle and hamstring injuries after his £2.5million switch to Molineux from Hull City in June. This has restricted him to just one first-team appearance, playing 62 minutes of the 4-2 extra-time Carling Cup success over Notts County last month. But the France-born defender believes he is now ready to push for the first team on a regular basis after coming through his latest test in the reserves' 2-1 defeat to Wigan on Tuesday. He told the Express & Star: "I'm ready. I think I've been ready for a week but I'm just waiting for my chance. "I've played in four full reserves matches now and every time I've played, I've felt better.

Good recovery

"I felt good on Tuesday - I'm very happy because I've made a good recovery, I've got my fitness back and everything is fine. "The ankle has been fine for a long time and the hamstring is OK." But Mouyokolo knows it will not be easy to dislodge established centre-back pairing Jody Craddock and Christophe Berra. He added: "I respect the manager's choice. He has to think of the whole team, it's not just about me. But when he needs me, I'll be ready to give my best for this club. "Craddock and Berra have been playing together for almost two years now and people don't always appreciate how important a partnership is.
So valuable
"It's so valuable to really know who your partner is because you develop an understanding and a confidence from playing together. "You have confidence in each other to do well and you know which positions he's going to take up. That's very important and it's something I have to live with. "But I can also learn from it, I watch the games and see how they play." While Mouyokolo believes he is not back to his best yet, he feels sharp. He added: "I'm not at my best yet because that only comes when you're playing regularly in the first team. "But I feel very good, I feel I've adapted well, my reactions are good and I'm fit and sharp."
