Ferrie Bodde is hoping to leave his injury nightmare in the past and earn a new contract at Swansea.
The Dutch midfielder has managed just 84 minutes of action since breaking down with a cruciate ligament injury in November 2008.
Four comeback matches have come and gone since then, with the 28-year-old unable to shake off the problem.
Bodde believes there is now light at the end of the tunnel, though, with the rehabilitation from his latest setback progressing nicely.
Having spent the majority of the last few months back in his native Holland, he is due to move back to south Wales on a permanent basis before the turn of the year.

He is then hoping to be back in action by the end of the season, giving him ample opportunity to win a contract extension.
Bodde has already held talks with Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins regarding fresh terms and is determined to ensure that paperwork is put to him before his current contract expires next summer.
He told the
South Wales Evening Post: "I want to play for Swansea and be a part of the manager's plans. Of course, my contract finishes next year but I'm talking with the chairman and I hope soon we can get something agreed.
"I say that not just because I want my future cleared up, but because I want to show my appreciation to the club. The chairman, the manager, my team-mates, the staff at Swansea and also the fans - everyone has been very good and supportive to me through this tough time.
"If I can get on the pitch and play well for Swansea then maybe I can repay everyone."
