Trotters boss delighted with the quality of new recruits

Bolton boss Owen Coyle has told skysports.com that he is pleased with the calibre of player he has been able to bring in during the summer transfer window. The Trotters, without the luxury of a big budget, have drafted in four fresh faces without dipping too far into the Reebok Stadium coffers. Marcos Alonso has been snapped up from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee, while Robbie Blake, Martin Petrov and Ivan Klasnic have all joined as free agents. With the exception of Spanish starlet Alonso, the majority of Coyle's dealings have focused around the acquisition of vast experience. He admits that bringing in tried and tested performers is always a sound idea, especially those who have graced the Premier League before, and is delighted with what he has snapped up so far. "Ultimately, the Bosman signings are experience - Petrov could have stayed at Manchester City for another year, so to get him in I thought was a terrific piece of business," Coyle told skysports.com.

Reputation

"Everybody who knows me or has worked with me knows that if I am going to go out and spend money, I have said it before, I will spend it on young players who are going to become real assets, a la Marcos Alonso. "But if terrific Bosmans come your way and there is no fee attached, then it is good business to go and do that and that's what we've done. "To have had no outlay in terms of transfer fees for Klasnic, Blake and Petrov, is very good business. We have also brought them in within our wage structure, so there is no doubt that's good. "I have no doubt that all three, and young Alonso, will deliver on the pitch. I think we have worked very well with what we've had available." Bolton also have a reputation for bringing the best out of experienced professionals, with Coyle continuing the fine work undertaken by Sam Allardyce during his time at the Reebok. "They have certainly had that reputation," added the Scot.
Gamble
"When you look at Sam's team, there were some quality players - (Jay Jay) Okocha, (Youri) Djorkaeff - but I think they might have been more expensive than what we have now. "We just have to concentrate on what we have now and regardless of whether they're 30 or 21, if you can bring quality players to your club, that's what you have to try and do. "Every signing you make is a gamble, we know that, but the good thing is, I certainly feel, we have quality. Petrov has undoubted quality, Blake has quality - I know from working with him - and Klasnic has it - I know from working with him too. "There is an element of gamble taken out there. With Alonso, he is a very young player and it was always going to be a gamble, but we checked that out thoroughly and had him watched a number of times and he comes hungry and ready to do well. That bodes well for both him and the football club." Coyle admits he is still looking to bolster his ranks further before the window slams shut, but insists new Premier League rules regarding squad sizes and home-grown talent will have no bearing on his business. He added: "It doesn't affect us really. The home-grown rule, we are fine with that, in terms of the 25. We are not one of the clubs that has a huge squad, there might be one or two who have to worry about that, but we certainly won't be."
