Carlo Nash is set to sign for Stoke having joined up with the Potters' pre-season tour.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper is out of contract with his deal at Everton having expired at the end of the season.
Nash has linked up with the Potters in Austria with a view to signing a 12-month contract at the Britannia Stadium.
The former Manchester City and Preston man played just one game in two years at Everton.
However, Stoke boss Tony Pulis is confident he can rely on Nash after he played 10 games on loan from Wigan at the end of the 2007/08 season, when the Potters sealed promotion to the Premier League.
"Carlo knows us and we know him," he told the club's
official website.

"He is a top goalkeeper who did a fantastic job for this football club during the promotion-winning season.
"He was out of contract at Everton and he is at that age now where he is happy to be third choice for us. I know if he is called upon he will do a fantastic job.
"He has a great attitude and I am delighted he is here with us."
Pulis was keen to sign another keeper after Steve Simonsen left for Sheffield United earlier this month on a free transfer and Nash will provide competition for Thomas Sorensen and Asmir Begovic.

"I've said all along that we need three goalkeepers, and three goalkeepers is what we will now have once Carlo signs for us," Pulis added.
"Thomas is very much one of those three as far as I'm concerned because of the quality and experience he gives us - and has given us for the past two years."
Nash had travelled with Everton on their pre-season tour to Australia but then had to fly to Austria to meet up with his potential new team-mates.
"He may be a little bit jet-lagged so I may have to take it easy on him in training - but not too much because I know how enthusiastic he is," said Pulis.
