Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is hoping to make progress in his pursuit of Aruna Dindane this week.
Rovers have been tracking the Ivory Coast international for some time and are hoping an agreement can be reached.
The African ace has spent the 2009/10 campaign on loan at Portsmouth, bringing him to Allardyce's attention.
However, Dindane is likely to have played his last game of the season for cash-strapped Pompey and currently finds himself in limbo.
His parent club, Lens, will be due a £4million fee if he makes two more appearances for Portsmouth, and the ailing South Coast club cannot afford to make that payment.
Rovers are hoping the unfortunate situation will play into their hands, as they look to strike a deal as soon as possible.
Allardyce said: "I would expect we will try to give a decision early next week.
"We want to see whether we can secure the transfer first and foremost and we'll see where we go from there."
