Steven Caldwell is resigned to the fact that Owen Coyle is heading for the exits at Burnley.
The Scot, who has spent the past two years in charge at Turf Moor, is poised to step into Gary Megson's shoes at Bolton.
The Trotters are hoping to have their new man in place by the time they face Arsenal on Wednesday, with a compensation package all that is left to thrash out with the Clarets.
Coyle will be greatly missed at Burnley, having led the club to promotion into the Premier League last season and helped them to make a bright start to their debut campaign in the top flight this term.
Caldwell admits the highly-rated coach has helped to transform the Clarets during his time in the North West, but accepts that the club must now look to the future and get fully behind whoever is brought in to replace Coyle.
"Owen has been fantastic for most people at the club and lifted us to the level where we wanted to play. That's testimony to the man and the manager," he told the club's
official website.
"But to all intents and purposes he's gone. There is no person bigger than the club and we will move on with the players we have here and whoever the new manager is.
Momentum
"We want to keep the momentum going and make sure we finish the job we've started this season. That is maintaining our Premier League status.
"Hopefully the new manager will take us on to a new level, which is as an established Premier League club - something which would be a fantastic achievement."
Club captain Caldwell is currently sidelined with a groin injury which looks set to keep him out of action for the foreseeable future.
However, he is keen to remain involved with first-team activities and has revealed that he is happy to help out if required when the Clarets entertain Stoke on Saturday - with coach Steve Davis placed in caretaker charge for the Potters clash.
"It's an extremely frustrating time for me to be out injured," he said.
"But I will still be doing my best to help the lads in any way possible. And if it's the skip (Davis), or whoever is in charge, if they want me to help I will be around to do whatever I can to help us achieve our goals."
